Poi+ Workshop

Opening karakia

Sets the tone for the session and shares the values and purpose of Poi+.

Activation activities

Activation activities to create movement, connection, and open a comfortable safe space.

Inclusive play with poi

Poi play designed to support participation for everyone, regardless of ability, or language.

Culture and poi kōrero

Learn about the history of poi, its cultural significance, & its types. Option of constructing your own poi too.

Cues & games

Participants practice poi handling, Maori movements and te reo cues.

Closing karakia

Closes the session with reflection, intention, and new connections.

MAKE YOUR OWN POI

For rangatahi (young people) and adults, organisers can choose to add a poi-making activity.

Ākonga (students) learn how to make their own poi to use during the session (and keep as their own taonga (treasure).

Note: This is not recommended for tamariki (young children) due to coordination and practical requirements.

Flat Rate: $250

Poi+ workshop (1–1.5 hours)

This includes travel to and from the session and materials for pre-made poi.

Add-on: $5pp

Optional poi-making workshop (30 mins)

This includes material for each ākonga to make one poi each, that is theirs to own.
